Its ruins brood next to the Hercules Powder Company Offices, affectionately known as "The Brick Building".
This is the once-mighty Hercules Powder Company plant. Little is left of it--its walls creak and sway in the wind.
I visited one night, taping over the reflectors on my bike and making a neat entry into the shell. Amidst rusting metal and broken bricks I could watch the sky with its perfect explosion of stars unmarred by light pollution.
It was my toybox, my condemned and wonderful toybox.
